Metaphor Collection

Technological progress has influenced photography drastically, and with that came the forever ongoing discussion on the evolution of photography, as well as of our own surroundings.

The clash between film and digital photography comes in an era where photography sees itself immensely impacted by the world around it, (following it, even) that evolved from being a natural, unaltered, virgin world to a highly mechanical, technological and human-shaped world.

The Metaphor series aims, precisely, to capture this dichotomy, and to explore the relationship that photography has with context and the respect that the photographer needs to have to capture the essence of what is shot, not only through the image itself but also through the whole process of photography.

The desert, the dunes, the curves of the Sahara Desert, the untouched, virgin land captured using a Contax 645 with a 140mm f2,8 with an Ilford fp4 120mm, clashes harshly with the very strict, straight lines, the symmetry and the architecture of this building façade of New York, photographed with Fuji-Xt1 with a 135mm.

The Collection is not only a dichotomy, a confrontation, between two very distinctive images and techniques of photography but especially a metaphor of our impact on our great and majestic world.

An NFT featuring a soft curve of the dune in the Sahara sand desert in Morocco.

This was shot in 2017 in the Sahara Desert, using a Contax 645 with a 140mm f2,8 with an Ilford fp4 120mm.

I was shooting a swimwear brand at the time, in this gorgeous location, and I fell in love with the soft curve of the dune right away and absolutely had to take this shot.

And the result was just perfect. I feel it really embodies the feeling of film photography, so soft and with a character of its own.

An NFT featuring an imposing brick building in Manhattan, New York, featuring multiple windows.

This was shot in 2015 in Manhattan, New York. I used a Fuji-Xt1 with a 135mm.

I took this photo during a business trip when I and my team were scouting the city to make sure the photoshoot we were having in the next few days would run smoothly.

It’s incredible how tall the buildings are in NY and I guess that is why, instead of feeling the urge to shoot the really big skyscrapers, this was the edifice that really caught my eye.

And one of the interesting things for me in this picture is the undeniable similarity between the array of the sensor of digital cameras and the bricks of the building.

I also have to admit that the casted shadow from the building in front ended up being just like the icing on the cake.
